A prayer can sometimes be an ask for help
A prayer can sometimes be an ask for help.
Prayer can be a way of asking for support, companionship, understanding,
- empathy in the midst of weariness or overwhelm.
A way of asking for someone, or something, to join you in your experience,
to join you in the struggle
because it’s too much to bear alone any longer.
Those vulnerable openings in your life when you know, and feel - “I can’t do this alone anymore” - and ask for help.
Prayer can be like this.
We begin by calling out to something or someone beyond ourselves.
Maybe it’s a friend or a lover
maybe it’s God, Mother Earth
or your true Self.
We call out and say, “Listen, I’m here, I’m really trying, but I need some support.”
I invite you to let your eyes close if comfortable and to join me in the spirit of prayer or meditation.
Spirit of Life - of Love, Source of Compassion and Wisdom
Great Connecting Mystery at the center of the universe of which we are a part
Join us in our struggle.
Join our sadness, our frustration, our anger - however small or large.
Help us feel seen and understood.
Strengthen our foundation so that we may feel rooted and sturdy for any turbulence ahead.
Open our hearts so that we may really see each other.
Open our minds to beauty.
Guide us to an even deeper well of patience for the days ahead.
Paint the colors of our connectedness in vibrant shades so we may remember, and feel it.
Help us tend to the tired feet of those left homeless after storms and fires, persecution and deportations.
Help us to comfort those sitting to our left and to our right who are living into the loss of a loved or a new diagnosis this morning.
Steady our balance so that we may hold these sorrows of life alongside the sweet celebrations of our communities this week.
Spirit of Compassion, in the midst of all of the sorrows and all of the joys names and unnamed this morning, stoke our fires so that we may continue to burn and to grow with the light of Love and Connection.
Come, Great Friend, Source of Wisdom, join us this morning. Amen.
